After the international fashion capital stops in London, Pitti Uomo, Milan, Paris and New York, the menswear week whirlwind descended on Cape Town for their leg of Spring/Summer 2019 shows. Though the collections at South Africa Menswear Week SS19 held at The Lookout showcased what is to come in the summer, street style enthusiasts braced themselves for a chilly week.
Whilst the formula is the same, that is to dress up and slay, Cape Town’s fashion aesthetic is vastly different when it comes to street style. Capetonians tend to leave the over the top dapper looks to Joburgers and rather consider casual, dynamic, edgy and effortless looks to get through their days.
The winter layering appropriate weather includes a series of monochromatic looks, intersecting lines, streetwear hoodies, heavily polished details, loose silhouettes, and coats that are eye-catching for being either impressively tailored or worn as belts or over a single arm. While designers ruled the runways, everybody else takes to the streets to show off the most stylish threads to date. Armed with a deep love for cold temperature, countless outerwear options, keeping warm and looking good went without mention for me.
